Emma Forrest’s memoir, Busy Being Free (2022, W&N), has been optioned for TV by the production company behind “His Dark Materials” and “Doctor Who”.
Published in paperback this week, the memoir asks: “What happens when your story doesn’t end the way you thought it would? When the dream life you have been working towards becomes something you must walk away from?”
On acquiring the book, publishing director for Orion Lettice Franklin described it as “a memoir about what it is to find oneself, in the middle of your life, at a bump in the road; about the romance to be found in leaving a marriage and starting out alone; about sex and celibacy.”
Bad Wolf chief executive, Jane Tranter, said: “Emma is one of the boldest, brightest voices of today’s generation. Her sharply funny, yet incisively honest examinations of her life experiences as a deeper rumination on the human condition have engrossed readers for many years… and Busy Being Free is no exception.
“It is a memoir that magnificently captures decades’ worth of self-reflection around relationships, love, sex and forging a path back to one’s own identity when life takes unexpected turns. We are thrilled to be working with Emma to bring her story to the screen.”
