Fourth Estate has acquired two new books from bestselling author Craig Brown, who won the 2020 Baillie Gifford Prize with One Two Three Four: The Beatles in Time.
Nicholas Pearson, publishing director, acquired world rights to Q: A Biography of Queen Elizabeth II and Haywire: The Best of Craig Brown directly from the author. Haywire will be published in autumn 2022. Q does not yet have a publication date.
In Q Brown, turns his attention to the most famous, and most guarded, woman on earth, examining the Queen in her time through a succession of interlocking prisms, while Haywire gathers together the best examples of Brown’s writing from the past fifteen years.
Pearson said: “One of the great pleasures at 4th Estate is publishing Craig Brown. His biographies of Princess Margaret and the Beatles are formally inventive and hugely entertaining, revealing the absurd in all our lives. We are thrilled to be publishing a collection of Craig’s writing in the autumn. And Craig Brown on the Queen? A gift from the gods.”
Brown said: “The remarkable team at 4th Estate have published my last four books with exceptional verve, making each outsell the one before, as if by magic. So I’m delighted they’ll be publishing Haywire and Q, two books that will, I hope, rise to their well-known preference for the quirky over the conventional and the original over the commonplace.”
