Frances Lincoln Children’s Books will publish a new financial literacy book for teenage girls by expert Davinia Tomlinson.
Claire Grace, senior commissioning editor, acquired world rights to Cash is Queen: A Girl’s Guide to Securing, Spending and Stashing Cash from Ruth Cairns at Featherstone Cairns agency. It will publish on 5th January 2023.
Tomlinson has more than 15 years’ experience working across investment management and financial services, and is the founder of Rainchq, the financial education platform helping women and girls take control of their financial futures.
The book is intended as a “fresh, honest and relatable resource to help girls combat the financial divides that exist between men and women,” and contains information on everything from budgeting to investing. It is fully illustrated throughout by illustrator Andrea Oerter.
Grace said: “Studies show that women are far happier discussing virtually anything other than their finances and this lack of confidence is having extreme negative financial repercussions for the female population. Change is needed and Cash is Queen is the perfect book, written exclusively for girls, to help young women today learn to understand and manage money. Davinia, with her years of financial experience, is the perfect author to do so and we are incredibly proud to have worked with her on this essential book that will help girls everywhere establish positive financial habits that will last a lifetime.”
Tomlinson added: “From the gender pay gap to the gender pensions gap, at every stage in our adult lives, women are forced to confront unequal economic prospects that threaten to compromise our quality of life, a situation compounded by a raging cost of living crisis. Cash is Queen exists to equip the next generation of young women with the knowledge to make solid financial decisions early. As a mother of two daughters, this is a mission that feels particularly personal. And with research revealing that this inequality begins from pocket money, with a 20% gap between boys and girls, there’s no better time than now.”
