Frances Lincoln has triumphed in a four-way auction to secure the first-ever book by Caroline Quentin, known for her roles in "Men Behaving Badly" and "Jonathan Creek".
World rights to Drawn to the Garden were acquired by publisher Philip Cooper from Gordon Wise at Curtis Brown. It is slated for publication in February 2024.
The publisher said: “During lockdown, Caroline started to share her vegetable and flower garden in Devon on Instagram @CQGardens. Within a few weeks she had thousands of people (now over 130,000) following her. Drawn to the Garden is a mixture of anecdotes about her own experience and pleasure in gardening, together with practical advice and tips about how to get the most out your own garden both for enjoyment and wellbeing. Interspersed throughout will be Caroline’s own watercolours and sketches.”
Quentin said: “I’m delighted to say that Drawn to the Garden is my chance to share my passion for gardening and painting and to give a little insight in to some of the highs and lows the laughter and occasional tears that have been a part of my gardening life over the past 40 odd years.
"There are drawings and paintings of the things I grow in my vegetable plot, the dishes I cook with my produce and the wildlife I love to watch. Nature is good for our mental and physical wellbeing. I’ll talk about how my garden helps me stay well as I get older and, because I’m working with Quarto, it’ll be a thoughtful, fun and colourful book.”
Cooper added: “Gardening has been a passion of Caroline’s since childhood and she has been sharing her gardening tips in Devon with her fast-growing Instagram account for some years now. This will be a wonderful gift book for gardeners of all levels of experience and a fantastic addition to Frances Lincoln’s well-established gardening list.”
