Blink Publishing has scooped up the “hilarious and noshable” memoir, A Slice of Fried Gold by actor Nick Frost, known for appearances in the likes of “Shaun of the Dead” and “Hot Fuzz”.
Publishing Director Susannah Otter acquired world all language rights at auction from Sara O’Keeffe at Aevitas. A Slice of Fried Gold will be published in hardback, audiobook and e-book on 28th September 2023, with the paperback following in 2024.
As well as being an actor, the publisher describes Frost as “a keen, self-taught cook”, going on: “So keen, in fact, that in lockdown, he personally delivered pies to his Instagram followers. He can also slice a mushroom faster than any muthaf**ka.
“Nick’s favourite thing to eat aged 10 was his mother’s stroganoff and as her alcoholism worsened, he began to learn to cook it for himself, gradually taking over and using it as a magic trick to conjure up the very best bits of her – the stable, sober bits, which became harder to find as the years went on. This was the beginning of a lifelong love of process and technique, of escaping into a world of steam, blips, bubbling sauces and the thunk of razor sharp knives on chopping boards. This book is his love letter to food, to kitchens and the people he found in them.”
Otter said: “Never in my 10 years as an editor has a proposal been met with such a tidal wave of internal enthusiasm as this one, and I am honoured to be publishing A Slice of Fried Gold at Blink. Nick holds a deep appreciation of cooking, food, and all it carries with it, as well as an enviable ability to find the perfect phrase to describe these things.”
Frost said: “Out of all the publishers I met who wanted to eat my memories, and let me tell you there were many, Bonnier and specifically Susannah Otter made me realise very early on there was only one place I felt comfortable sharing both memoir and delicious, noshable recipes.”
