Gaia has acquired Wild Treasures: A Year of Extraordinary Encounters with Cornwall’s Wildlife by Hannah Stitfall, due to publish on 25th April 2024.
Former commissioner Nicky Crane purchased world all-language rights from Grainne Montgomery at Siren Talent Management.
Stitfall is a wildlife filmmaker and TV presenter. In Wild Treasures, she takes readers on a journey of discovery; sharing her incredible stories, beautiful photographs and often funny interactions with Cornwall’s wildlife over the course of a year. “From brown hares boxing in the grass in the spring, watching an otter cub hunt in the wetlands in the winter, to the unique bioluminescence of a glow-worm in the summer, Wild Treasures is a remarkable diary, informative guide and joyous celebration of our nation’s wonderful wildlife, written by one of the most exciting and unique voices making an impact within the natural history genre today” the publisher said.
Jessica Lacey, commissioning editor at Gaia Books, said of the acquisition: “For anyone who hasn’t stumbled across Hannah’s social media before, you’re in for a treat. There, she shares truly extraordinary encounters with the creatures near her home in Cornwall – and that’s exactly what the book does, too. Wild Treasures explores and celebrates the best of Britain’s wildlife, and emphasises all the reasons we need to preserve it. Hannah is a gifted storyteller and a talented content creator; we can’t wait to share her book with the world!”
Stitfall added: “As a wildlife filmmaker and TV presenter, I love being outdoors surrounded by nature. Through championing causes and raising awareness for the natural world and all of its inhabitants, I’ve made it my mission and life’s work to encourage others to get outside too. I’m thrilled to be publishing my first book that showcases the extraordinary wildlife we have here in the UK. Most of the wildlife I photograph and film are within a five-mile radius of where I live in Cornwall, and I hope this very special book will inspire others to have their own remarkable wildlife adventures just beyond their doorstep!”
