Gaia, an imprint of Octopus Books, has unveiled the newest instalment of Lia Leendertz’s seasonal almanac, entitled Almanac: A Seasonal Guide to 2024.
Publisher Stephanie Jackson acquired UK and Commonwealth rights from Adrian Sington at Kruger Cowne to the “highly anticipated new instalment of the original and bestselling seasonal guide, [which] gives you all the tools and inspiration you need to celebrate, mark and appreciate each month of the year in your own particular way".
Scheduled for publication on 31st August 2023, the edition focuses on the natural wonders of the garden, “celebrating the beautiful flora and fauna at your doorstep". There are also new features including monthly meditations, garden crafts and a snack of the month.
The publisher goes on: “A set of tables each month gives the feel and weight of a traditional almanac, providing practical information that’s invaluable for planning expeditions to the seaside, meteor-spotting nights and holidays.”
Every year, the latest edition of The Almanac features the work of a new artist, specially commissioned to create a bespoke cover image as well as a set of illustrations for the interior. This year’s artist is Romanian illustrator Heliana Adalgiza (a.k.a Aitch).
Publisher Stephanie Jackson said of the acquisition: “Thanks to Lia Leendertz’s reinvention of the genre back in 2017, almanacs have once again become a significant annual sale. And each year the ever-growing audience turns to her latest edition to enjoy what’s new themselves – or gift it to friends and family. From the constantly evolving content to the gorgeous, collectible package, The Almanac is the perfect reminder to enjoy the world outside our windows, whatever the season.”
Leendertz commented: ‘I am delighted to be taking the garden as my theme for my 2024 almanac, and going back to my roots as a gardener and a garden writer. The garden is the natural world in miniature, and the perfect spot to slow down and notice the changing of the seasons. I hope gardeners and non-gardeners will love following the year through the garden with The Almanac 2024.”
