Gallery Books has scooped MP Jess Phillips’ Let’s Be Honest, a "funny, perceptive and ultimately hopeful book about lying in politics".
Holly Harris, publishing director for non-fiction, acquired UK and Commonwealth rights from Laura Macdougall at United Agents for publication on 8th August 2024.
Let’s Be Honest is "at once a laugh-so-you-don’t-cry takedown of the state of Westminster in recent years and a rallying battle cry for bringing truth back to politics".
Phillips was first elected as the Labour MP for Birmingham Yardley in 2015 and was elected as chair of the Women’s Parliamentary Labour Party in September 2016. She commented: "Politics matters, but people have for too long felt as if it’s not about them or listening to them. Lies, gaffes and spin have become totally normal. This book is about how we got here and how we can get out."
Harris added: "Jess is a breath of fresh air in modern politics and this book is a genuinely funny and engaging call to arms. We’ve put up with a lot, and Jess is the perfect guide through the chaos. In showing the system through her eyes, she gives the reader an ultimately hopeful view of democracy. It’s a palate-cleansing and entertaining read and we can’t wait for readers to enjoy it."
