Gallic Books has snapped up the “gloriously gritty and powerful” second novel from writer Chloe Lane.
Polly Mackintosh, editor, acquired UK and Commonwealth rights excluding North America, Australia and New Zealand for Arms & Legs from Te Herenga Waka University Press. It will be published in autumn 2023.
Arms & Legs is described by the publisher as “a sharply drawn portrait of a disintegrating marriage, set in the claustrophobic suburbs of Florida.
“Georgie has left behind her native New Zealand with her husband and two-year-old son, hoping for a new life. But not everything is as it seems. Bodies and boundaries alike splinter as Georgie pulls away from the life she once longed for and begins a passionless affair with a local man. Meanwhile, the body of a student is found in the forest…"
Lane’s debut The Swimmers was first published by Gallic Books in May 2022, and will be released in paperback in May 2023. It follows a young woman who learns of her terminally ill mother’s imminent plans to commit suicide.
Mackintosh said: “I am very happy that we can continue publishing Chloe Lane, whose debut The Swimmers was a standout for us this year. Arms & Legs is a gloriously gritty and powerful novel that really shows Chloe’s growth as an author. We can’t wait to share it with readers.”
Lane added: “I am delighted that Gallic will be publishing Arms & Legs. I loved working with them on The Swimmers, and I’m excited that my second novel will have the same the opportunity to find a wider readership in the UK. And with such a brilliant and supportive team backing it.”
