Gallic books has snapped up All the Way to Summer: Stories of Love and Longing, the latest work from Dame Fiona Kidman OBE, the award-winning author of This Mortal Boy, published by Gallic Books in 2019.
Polly Mackintosh, editor, acquired world English rights excluding Australia, New Zealand and Oceania from Penguin Random House Australia & New Zealand. It will be published to coincide with Valentine’s Day in February 2024.
All the Way to Summer is described as “a searing collection of short stories about love and loss from one of Aotearoa’s pioneering feminist icons".
It includes both previously published and brand-new stories, ranging from a woman looking back on her first love to two mothers fighting over who will wear a hat on their children’s wedding day. “Kidman vividly depicts the joys of female desire and the pain of heartbreak, the thrill of illicit liaisons and the twists and turns of unconventional love,” the publisher says.
Mackintosh said: “All the Way to Summer encapsulates Dame Fiona’s skill as a writer. The stories are full of feeling and power, offering a multi-faceted vision of love. I am very pleased that we are continuing to publish such an iconic talent.”
Kidman commented: “It’s wonderful to be working with Gallic Books again. I am especially happy that they have picked up All the Way to Summer as it’s a book close to my heart, reflecting some of those things that I have really wanted to say over the years.”
