G2 Entertainment and St. James's House Publishing are to jointly publish the story of England manager Gareth Southgate next month.
Zero to Hero: The Southgate Story, penned by sports writer Rob Mason, will trace how Southgate went from "zero to hero" and became only the third ever England manager to take the team to the semi-final of the FIFA World Cup. The 2018 squad was knocked out on Wednesday (11th July), following a defeat to Croatia in extra time.
Southgate was appointed to the position of England manager after the resignation of Sam Allardyce following the 2016 English football scandal.
With his trademark waistcoat, finely trimmed beard and a willingness to share credit rather than look to monopolise it, Southgate showed the leadership to bravely cast aside the old guard represented by Joe Hart and Wayne Rooney and put together a new team of "young lions ready to roar", said the publishers.
They continued: "Had England stumbled through the group stage of the 2018 FIFA World Cup and then lost gallantly once the knock-out stuff began, Southgate would have simply been another page in the list of England failures, ready to be replaced by a high profile manager of world renown as the FA looked for yet another blue-print for future success.
"This tale traces how Southgate went from zero to hero, from the days when he was a youngster at Crystal Palace to the days when surely Buckingham Palace will be giving him a call as the toast of the nation joins Sir Alf Ramsey and Sir Bobby Robson as England’s most successful manager."
The Southgate Story is to feature in a month long promotional campaign with the Daily Mail newspaper and have "heavy" social media and advertorial support to coincide with the launch.
Last week HarperCollins revealed it would be rush-releasing a book celebrating England’s “Young Lions” next month.
