Independent publisher Gibson Square has acquired The Third World War? by Yuri Felshtinsky and Mikhail Stanchev, a work of non-fiction that predicted the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
Publisher Martin Rynja acquired world rights in the book in a deal struck directly with the authors. Eastern-European rights were handled by sub-agent Milena Kaplarevic and Ana Milenkovic.
The book was inspired by an article that Felshtinsky wrote a week after Russia’s invasion and annexation of Crimea in March 2014. The press will be publishing the book for the first time in the English language in May, with the author’s latest updates and predictions.
It is the second book by Felshtinsky that predicts world events. Blowing up Russia: The Secret FSB Plot that Delivered Russia to Putin, which he co-authored with Alexander Litvinenko, was released by Gibson in 2007. The book inspired a Netflix biopic starring Benedict Cumberbatch, which will be released later this year.
"Although Felshtinsky and Stanchev place all the blame for the outbreak of the war on Vladimir Putin and his entourage, they also acknowledge the serious mistakes of Ukraine’s political elite, which over the country’s quarter-century of independence created the conditions conducive to a Russian invasion," the synopsis for the new book reads.
"Russia will not be able to win over the entire democratic world. The result will be the collapse of the Russian Federation. Ukrainians proved that they are ready to die for the sake of their freedom. It is not clear that Russians are ready to die for Putin’s imperial ambitions."
