HarperNorth has landed a “deft, fierce and beautiful” début memoir from Northumberland writer Caro Giles.
Genevieve Pegg, publishing director, acquired UK and commonwealth rights to Twelve Moons from Tim Bates at PFD to publish in January 2023 in hardback, e-book and audio.
The book tells the story of a tumultuous year of challenge and resilience, caring, mothering and recovering, at a point in Giles’ life when her solace came from the changing moon above and the wild Northumberland sea and skies.
Pegg said: “Caro’s writing wove a spell around me from the first time I read her words. An utterly captivating shared journey through a year, Twelve Moons is a deft, fierce and beautiful testament to finding your voice and your succour even in the darkest times. A story of caring, identity and the unpolished beauty and regenerative power of the natural world around us, I can’t wait to share this book – which manages the life-writing magic of being at once both deeply personal and tantalisingly universal.”
Giles won the BBC Countryfile New Nature Writer of the Year in 2021 and is a columnist for Psychologies.
She said: “In Twelve Moons, I have poured myself on to the page, revealed a world that is both seen and unseen. But this isn’t only my story, it’s the story of anyone who has ever felt hidden or unheard, of how we can feel both fragile and mighty. I’m so excited to be working with HarperNorth to bring my book into the world.”
