Icon has signed My First Popsicle, a food anthology featuring writing by stars including Patti Smith and Jia Tolentino, edited by "Girls" actor Zosia Mamet.
Commissioning Editor Ellen Conlon acquired UK and Commonwealth rights from Penguin US. Icon will publish in November 2022 alongside one of the company’s biggest publicity and marketing campaigns to date, with events, extensive social advertising and partnerships taking place.
Described as the "potluck of words from exceptionally special literary cooks", entries will also feature Andrew Rannells on his nostalgia for Jell-O Cake, Katie Holmes on her grandma’s peanut butter cookies and "Fleabag" actress Sian Clifford on intuitive eating. Contributions from Kaley Cuoco, Beanie Feldstein and Ted Danson will also be included.
Conlon said: "I was excited as soon as I saw the proposal for this book. The emotions tied to food are so strong for so many people, evoking childhood memories, life highs and lows, and offering real comfort, and it’s so wonderful to see this written about by such an array of brilliant and gifted contributors. It’s really exciting to add these names to Icon’s growing list and the book is a gorgeous package with beautiful illustrations. I can’t wait for it to bring real joy to its readers."
Mamet is best known for her starring role as Shoshanna Shapiro in the Emmy and Golden Globe Award-winning HBO series "Girls". She can currently be seen starring opposite Cuoco in the Emmy-nominated HBO Max series "The Flight Attendant", the second series of which has just aired.
"II could not be more excited to finally have this book entering the world. It was an absolute joy creating this literary meal. I wanted this book to be a thing of beauty and comfort. Something to cherish and return to. Filled with essays and recipes that would make you laugh or delight when you needed it most. Make you feel seen and bring you warmth during a time of darkness. And I hope this book is just that to each human that cracks its pages. Bon appetite to every popsicle reader!"
