Orion's SFF imprint Gollancz has acquired a new Ben Aaronovitch novella, The October Man, which extends the Rivers of London universe to Germany.
The new book introduces readers to the investigations of Detective Tobias Winter as he uncovers the truth behind a savage murder in the German city of Trier. Former bookseller Aaronovitch said the series, about cops who do magic, had "lots of avid fans in Germany and I thought it was about time they had their own character and we learnt what their wizards have been up to".
Gollancz will publish the new story in hardback and e-book on 13th June 2019 simultaneously with US publisher Subterranean Press.
Gillian Redfearn, publishing director of Gollancz, who did the deal with John Berlyne of Zeno Agency Ltd, said: "The novella is becoming an increasingly successful and vibrant format in publishing and, as the success of his bestselling novella The Furthest Station showed, Ben Aaronovitch is gifted at writing them. It’s fabulous to welcome a new detective to the Rivers of London universe."
