Gollancz has acquired The Narrow Road Between Desires, a new novella by Patrick Rothfuss which sees the author return to the universe of his series The Kingkiller Chronicle.
Deputy publisher Gillian Redfearn acquired UK and Commonwealth rights, excluding Canada, from Caspian Dennis at Abner Stein on behalf of Matt Bialer at Sanford J Greenburger Associates. The Narrow Road Between Desires, "lavishly" illustrated by Nate Taylor, will be published in hardcover on 14th November 2023.
The Narrow Road Between Desires is Bast’s story, told over the course of a single day as the charming fae schemes and sneaks, and dances into trouble and back out again with uncanny grace.
Rothfuss’ first novel, The Name of the Wind, won the Quill Award and was a Publishers Weekly Best Book of the Year. Its sequel, The Wise Man’s Fear (Gollancz), debuted at number one on the New York Times bestseller chart and won the David Gemmell Legend Award. His worldwide sales are estimated at more than 10 million copies according to the publisher.
Redfearn said: “A new tale from Patrick Rothfuss is always an event, and we couldn’t be more delighted that he’s surprised his fans with the news of this fantastic story which is told with his trademark flair and utterly immersive storytelling. This fully updated and illustrated novella is an absolute treat.”
