Gollancz has signed the fifth Stormlight Archive novel by worldwide bestseller Brandon Sanderson.
Gillian Redfearn, deputy publisher, acquired UK and Commonwealth rights to Wind and Truth from John Berlyne at the Zeno Literary Agency, on behalf of Joshua Bilmes at the JABberwocky Literary Agency. It will publish in hardback, e-book, and audiobook on 6th December 2024 backed by a "major" global marketing and publicity campaign. Sanderson previously created the biggest single Kickstarter of all time in 2022, raising $41m (£32m) from readers to publish editions of four stand-alone novels.
Wind and Truth brings the five-novel Stormlight Archive arc to its conclusion. The story, about mankind fighting for survival in a hostile world and against a dangerous god, showcases the power of individuals to make a change for good of all, and the personal cost of the sacrifices that entails. Taking in the sweep of political and physical battles on the grandest and smallest scales, "it’s both a compelling and satisfying story and a remarkable achievement", the publisher said.
Redfearn said: "Brandon Sanderson is a storytelling force of nature, and the love readers have for The Stormlight Archive is fierce and remarkable. This series, which brings together an epic scale with the individual, personal consequences and costs of power, has been a sensation since it began in 2010 and it’s a delight for Gollancz to be part of the adventure."
Sanderson is a New York Times bestseller, most famous for his epic fantasy series The Stormlight Archive and The Mistborn Saga. In addition to creating his own landmark series, he was chosen by Robert Jordan’s estate to complete The Wheel of Time, now a series on Amazon Prime.
