Welsh independent publisher Graffeg has acquired Molly and the Lockdown, a new picture book in Malachy Doyle's Molly series, which will address the challenges of the pandemic. The book will be illustrated by Andrew Whitson.
The publisher developed the title with Doyle and Whitson. In collaboration with Irish publisher An tSnáthaid Mhór, Molly and the Lockdown will be released simultaneously in English, Irish and Welsh on 29th March 2021.
The synopsis reads: "Molly is a young girl who lives on an island off the coast with her family, friends and neighbours, but one day their island is suddenly plunged into a lockdown as a dangerous virus finds its way onto their shores. The inhabitants have to adapt to this new way of living, which also leaves Mollie’s fisherman father isolating with a relative on the mainland. To make use of her time Molly completes jigsaws, plays her fiddle, makes face masks and looks after her pets whilst her mother helps others on the island and the community works together to persevere through their new conditions."
Graffeg has publisher three other titles in the Molly series: Molly and the Stormy Sea (2018); Molly and the Whale (2019) and Molly and the Lighthouse (2020). Molly and the Shutdown was also published online as a free lockdown resource.
