Granta Books has scooped No More Normal, a book by neuropsychiatrist Alastair Santhouse about "the rise of diagnoses in mental health conditions and disorders".
Associate publishing director Laura Barber acquired UK and Commonwealth rights on proposal from Jonathan Conway at Jonathan Conway Literary Agency for publication in April 2025.
The synopsis states: "In recent decades, as the conversation around mental health has evolved, the diagnosis of mental health conditions has risen sharply. Yet are we really less psychologically healthy than previous generations? In this brave and vitally important new book, Dr Santhouse draws on his decades of clinical experience to explain our current malaise and propose an alternative way of understanding and approaching mental health problems and other human experiences."
Barber commented: "This is one of the key social and personal issues of our age and we are all so impressed by Dr Santhouse’s measured, compassionate and common sense approach to the subject. No More Normal promises to make an informed and valuable contribution to the current conversation around diagnosis."
Santhouse added: "I am delighted to be working with Laura Barber and the whole team at Granta on a subject that has profound implications for the future of mental health care – how to understand health and illness in an age of soaring psychiatric diagnosis."
