Granta Books has snapped up rights to biography Mozart in Motion by poet Patrick Mackie.
Publishing director Bella Lacey signed world rights from the author. The biography is scheduled for publication in spring 2021 and analyses the music of Mozart to understand the composer’s life as well as relating his compositions to present day culture.
The synopsis explains: “With chapters arranged around pieces of music from Mozart’s oeuvre, Mackie takes us on an journey into the pleasures of Mozart’s work, into major and lesser known moments of Mozart’s life, and into the concerns, attitudes and mores of the eighteenth century.”
Lacey said: “Mackie’s writing is exuberant and exquisite and he writes about Mozart’s music with compelling grace and insight. Mozart’s music still has much relevance to the times we live in today, and Mackie captures these parallels with ease and intellect. I’m excited to be welcoming this astute and creative author to the Granta list.”
Mackie has previously had works of poetry published, including The Further Adventures Of The Lives Of The Saints (CB Editions, 2016) and Excerpts From the Memoirs Of A Fool (Carcanet, 2001).
