Granta has scooped a new story collection, a novel and non-fiction title by Mariana Enriquez, author of the International Booker Prize-shortlisted The Dangers of Smoking in Bed (Granta).
Associate publishing director Jason Arthur acquired UK & Commonwealth rights, excluding Canada, in a new story collection, a novel and a non-fiction title from María Lynch at Casanovas & Lynch.
A Sunny Place for Shady People, the new collection of stories, will be published in trade paperback and e-book editions on 19th September 2024. The synopsis says: "In these macabre, ghostly short stories, love, womanhood, LGBTQ counterculture, parenthood and Argentina’s brutal past are explored."
The story collection will be followed by Somebody is Walking on Your Grave in 2026, Enriquez’ first non-fiction title to be translated into English in which she visits cemeteries all over the world. The synopsis says the author "brings her own journalistic and ‘gothic’ investigative skills to each one, describing the stories and characters to be found there and the history they evoke".
Finally in 2027, Granta will publish It’s The Come-down That Kills you, her debut novel, translated into English for the first time. All three books will be translated by Megan McDowell.
Arthur said: "It was a huge joy and honour last year to publish Mariana’s Our Share of Night, the first of her novels to be translated into English, and I’m utterly thrilled to have acquired her next three books."
