Great Northern Books has scooped Chris Tarrant’s first memoir, It’s Not a Proper Job, where the presenter reflects on his 50-year career at the heart of British TV.
David Burrill, creative director at Great Northern Books, negotiated world rights with Tarrant and his agent Paul Vaughan, with publication of the hardback due in April 2022.
It’s Not a Proper Job looks back on Tarrant’s extraordinary career, as the presenter of programmes such as "Tiswas" and "Who Wants to be a Millionaire?". Tarrant will remember and reflect on the hilarious and bizarre characters from the past 50 years on the little screen, from "Tiswas" star the Phantom Flan Flinger to quiz show cheat the "Coughing Major".
The publisher said: "Spanning five decades, Chris’ television credits are the envy of aspirational TV stars, but reading his laugh-out-loud anecdotes – akin to having a chat with the man himself over a pint, or listening to one of his entertaining, after-dinner speeches – reveals a man still amused by life, by the people he meets, and by his own humble assertion that none of his glittering career can, in any way, be called ‘a proper job’."
