Greystone Books UK has scooped Oaklore: Adventures in a World of Extraordinary Trees by environmentalist and writer Jules Acton. The book combines nature writing with myth and history in an "exuberant portrait" of oak trees.
Rob Sanders, Greystone Books’ founding publisher and c.e.o., bought world all-language rights directly from the author, and the book will be published in hardback in September 2024 in the UK.
Andrew Furlow, head of Greystone Books UK, said: "I’m delighted that we’ll be publishing this quirky, conversational and engrossing story of the oak tree. It’s told with infectious enthusiasm and authority by Jules Acton, who has made her home, figuratively, amid the branches and roots of this species. It’s a story about Britain too, and Britons, as the oak is ingrained in so much of our history, culture, mythology and literature as well as our woods and forests.
"It’s a striking, enjoyable and on-brand book for us that we look forward to bringing to the world next autumn."
Acton added: "It has been a joy to work with the Greystone team on my first book and it is so exciting to see things come to fruition. Getting to know oak trees is like opening a treasure chest full of amazing wildlife as well as human history and stories. I hope the publication of this book means more people experience the wonder and delight of the oak’s world."
