Grove Press UK has snapped up Ingvild Rishøi’s Brightly Shining.
Peter Blackstock, publisher of Grove Press UK and deputy publisher of Grove Atlantic, acquired world English rights from the Ahlander Agency in the Norwegian writer’s book, which will be published in B-format hardback, audio and e-book on 7th November 2024.
"Brightly Shining is a heartbreaking, funny and philosophical tale about the reality of addiction, the power of dreams and the kindness of strangers," the synopsis says.
Blackstock said: “I read Brightly Shining in the heat of summer but was instantly transported to a Christmas tree stand in Oslo in the cold, dark depths of December. Melissa and Ronja captured my heart and the bold vitality of these two young sisters, living with a single father, beams out from the pages. It is beautiful, vibrant and deeply moving, a window into a world often unilluminated by the shine of Christmas lights.”
Rishøi added: “Norwegian is a small language, but what the girls experience in Brightly Shining is something that children go through all over the world. That is why it feels fantastic that the book will now reach the English-speaking world too.”
