Double MOBO-winning rapper Guvna B has signed a deal with Harper Inspire for a book tackling toxic masculinity.
The book was bought by Rose Sandy at Harper Inspire who acquired rights directly from the author, real name Isaac Borquaye. Unspoken: Toxic Masculinity and How I Faced the Man Within the Man will be released in this autumn.
Guvna B grew up in Canning Town, east London, entering the music world as a teen and releasing his first album "The Narrow Road" in 2008 at just 19 years old. He bagged the Best Gospel Artist award at the MOBOs in 2010 and again in 2016. He also runs the music-focused charity Allo Mate, which he founded to support young urban artists with their careers.
He said: “After the loss of my father, I realised that I wasn’t as well put together as I thought. I want to help other young men struggling to process their emotions. I’m delighted to be releasing my book with Harper Inspire. This partnership fits like a glove and I can’t wait to roll this out.”
Sandy added: “We are delighted to be publishing Guvna B. With this book he is opening up about toxic masculinity, and how he’s dealt with this as a young black man. He is also writing about how he navigated his emotions, after the unexpected loss of his father at a young age. His is a powerful and positive message aimed at a group most in need of guidance at a difficult age – young men.”
