Wren & Rook, an imprint of Hachette Children’s Group (HCG), is marking next month’s 200th anniversary of Frankenstein with a book about Mary Shelley.
Mary’s Monster by American author and illustrator Lita Judge is based on Shelley’s own diaries. The book tells the story of the author’s life, including her elopement to Switzerland with the poet Percy Bysshe Shelley and her creation of Frankenstein and his monster.
Debbie Foy, publishing director of Wren & Rook, secured world English language rights (excluding USA, Canada, ANZ and the Philippines) in a deal made with Wernick & Pratt Agency through Rebecca Mancini from The Rights Mix.
“I am thrilled to welcome Lita to the Wren & Rook list,” said Foy. “In Mary’s Monster (Judge) has created something truly extraordinary and genre-defying – part biography, part fantasy and part feminist allegory.”
Mary’s Monster will be released in February.
