Hachette Children’s Group has acquired a narrative non-fiction debut children’s title from Clarkson’s Farm star Kaleb Cooper.
Emily Lunn, editorial director non-fiction at Hachette Children’s Group, acquired Kaleb’s Farmyard Tales, from Debbie Catchpole at Fresh Partners. Designer Pippi Grantham-Wright acquired illustration from Susan Penny at The Bright Agency.
Kaleb’s Farmyard Tales features funny, muddy and very true farm stories guaranteed to entertain all farm-mad fans aged five to seven-years-old.
Cooper said: "I cannot tell you how exciting it is writing a farming book for kids. I’m passionate about sharing how brilliant our industry is and supporting new young farmers into the best job on earth. But it doesn’t matter what you want to be when you grow up – I believe every child should understand where their breakfast, lunch and dinner actually comes from. I hope this book gives every reader a lot of laughs while they learn."
Cooper’s first book, The World According to Kaleb, was a Sunday Times bestseller. He lives in Chipping Norton with his fiancé and two young children and when he’s not farming or with the family, Cooper likes collecting tractors and cars.
Lunn said: "This is a hilarious collection of true farmyard tales, perfect for all welly-wearing young readers. From escaping pigs to piles of muck and the highs and lows of being a farmer, this is a funny and warm behind-the-scenes look at Kaleb’s farming life. Complete with energetic illustration, we can’t wait to share this with young readers who would love to spend a day on a farm."
