Hodder Children’s Books will publish second graphic novel by Eoin Colfer, Andrew Donkin and Giovanni Rigano following the success of Illegal.
Senior publisher Anne McNeil acquired all language world rights from Sophie Hicks form Sophie Hicks Agency. Publication is scheduled for autumn 2021, with paperback to follow in 2022.
The trio’s second book is titled Global and will tackle the topic of the climate crisis. It tells the story of two young people, Sami and Yuki, living on different continents, whose lives are impacted by the effects of global warming.
Mirroring their first graphic novel, Global will include additional material in the form of interviews with those on the front-line of climate struggle and details on how readers can help prevent climate change.
Colfer, Donkin and Rigano said: “Global is not a story about what might happen in the future. Each element of climate change depicted in the story is absolutely real and all of them are happening right now. It’s often children that are on the frontline of climate change and Global highlights the dangers that they face daily.”
McNeil added: “Books like Global can play a part in bringing to life one of the most critical issues for today’s young people, and we are so proud to be the publishers of Illegal and Global, which are a testament to modern times.”
