You Grow Girl!: The No Worries Guide to Growing Up for Girls by Dr Zoe Williams has been signed by Hachette Children’s Group.
Laura Horsley, publishing director, acquired world rights from Louisa McDonald at Money Management. It will publish in paperback, e-book and audio in June with illustrations by Luna Valentine.
GP and This Morning resident doctor Williams will explain everything girls have ever wanted to know about puberty and more, the publisher said, describing the book as the girls’ companion guide to Dr Ranj’s How to Grow Up (Wren & Rook).
Williams will demystify puberty, from periods and breast changes to hormones and body hair. "Whatever changes girls are going through, they will feel confident, informed, and positive," the publisher continued.
“Inclusive, celebratory and wide-ranging, Zoe explores everything from mental health and healthy relationships to hobbies and self-care to help readers aged 9+ discover the confidence to grow up to be the very best version of themselves.”
Horsley said: “It is such a joy to be working with Dr Zoe Williams on You Grow Girl!. Zoe has created a fantastic myth-busting and energising puberty book for modern girls everywhere. Taking a holistic approach to health—from understanding hormones and periods to growing confidence, the importance of physical exercise and navigating unhealthy relationships—readers will leave equipped with the knowledge they need to ride out their teen years and armed with the life lessons for thriving in adulthood."
Williams, a Sun columnist and founder of the charity Fit4Life, said: “Growing up was a challenging time for me, as it is for so many girls. I hope that this book provides the information, guidance, and practical tips and activities to guide girls through puberty and support them to be confident, self-assured and, above all else, empowered.
“We live in a modern world where young people have access to unlimited, uncensored information so it is important for girls to have a resource which is honest, accurate and provides sensible and safe advice. And hopefully my own anecdotes will add some mild humour and show that you can succeed in life against all odds.”
