Hachette Children’s Group has acquired a dark, thrilling YA fantasy from Bex Hogan, author of The Isles of Storm and Sorrow trilogy.
Lena McCauley, editorial director, acquired world rights in all languages to Black Heat from Davinia Andrew-Lynch at the Andlyn Agency. It will be published in paperback, e-book, and audio on 6th July 2023.
Black Heat follows the story of three strangers – an exiled daughter with a plan for retribution, a rebel blacksmith with a blade of blood and a gentle midwife with a fiercely protected secret – who find their lives intertwined as they attempt to enact revenge on those that have harmed them.
McCauley commented: “I’m so excited to be publishing Bex’s first standalone fantasy novel. I absolutely love the way she plays with the theme of underestimated women in Black Heat – as the story progressed I realised that I had underestimated the characters just as much as the people in their lives had. I can’t wait to see readers’ reactions to the ending!”
Hogan said: “I’m delighted to be working with Lena and the team at Hachette once again. I adore the women at the heart of Black Heat, who are all damaged by the world they live in, but are strong in very different ways. I change my mind constantly about which of the three is my favourite, and can’t wait for readers to meet them and let me know who is theirs!”
