Hachette Children’s Group (HCG) is partnering with Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC), Royal Society of Biology (RSB) and the Institute of Physics (IOP) for a new education series of books. Your Expert Guide, published by one of HCG’s education imprints, Wayland, will launch in April 2025 and begin with three duologies covering introductions to biology, chemistry and physics for ages 8+.
Grace Glendinning, senior commissioning editor for Wayland, acquired world rights for the series from each scientific body separately: Serin Dabb and Paul MacLellan (RSC); Charlotte Cross (RSB) and Louise Swan and Hari Rentala (IOP). The books will also feature artwork by illustrators Dao Linh and Ola Szpunar, with design by Arvind Shah.
RSC, RSB and IOP authors confirmed for the series also include, for example, Dr Kit Chapman, science journalist, academic at Falmouth University and science communicator; Dr Helen Watson, associate professor of bioscience education at the University of Plymouth; Liam Cini O’Dwyer, science education lecturer at King’s College London, UK; with more to come.
The books will publish in hardback and ebook at £14.99 and in paperback at £10.99, starting with Your Expert Guide: The Periodic Table for Kids in April 2025.
Glendinning said: “We are excited to share Your Expert Guide’s outstanding content with the world. Working with partners of this calibre on essential STEM topics epitomises our goals at Wayland, to provide reliable, expert information in a top-quality package.”
Paul MacLellan, senior programme manager, RSC, said: “We believe all young people are entitled to an excellent STEM education that is engaging, inspiring and relevant, so this an exciting opportunity to partner with other expert bodies, a great list of authors and a fantastic children’s publisher to provide learners with accessible and engaging material.”
Charlotte Cross, senior publications officer at RSB, said: “We’re thrilled to be able to announce this new partnership and the launch of the Your Expert Guide education series. Each of our authors has been actively involved in building on the RSB’s 5-19 biology curriculum framework and has produced content for the series with this at the forefront. It’s a fantastic opportunity to reach young audiences and we hope they enjoy learning about the wonders of biology.”
Charles Tracy, senior adviser, learning and skills, Institute of Physics, said: “We are delighted to be working with such a reputable publisher and with some inspiring authors to produce this important series of books. We know that the stories and examples will draw young people into the world of physics, letting them experience the satisfaction and beauty of good physics explanations, while helping them identify themselves as future scientists.”
