Hachette Children’s Group has secured the rights to My Period: Find Your Flow and Feel Period Positive!, the "one-stop positive guide to getting your period" from author and journalist Milli Hill.
Laura Horsley, senior commissioning editor at Hachette Children's Group imprint Wren & Rook, acquired world rights from Jane Graham-Maw at Graham Maw Christie Agency. The book will be published in paperback on 27th May 2020 under the Wren & Rook imprint.
In My Period: Find Your Flow and Feel Period Positive! Hill will separate fact from fiction and answer everything girls need to know about their period, from menstrual cups and period pants to cramps and hormones, says the publisher. The book will be aimed at readers aged nine plus.
Horsley said: "A 2019 survey found that more than half of teenage girls miss school because they are embarrassed or worried about their period. We hope that this one-stop guide will help change that. My Period is period postive, informative, myth-busting and celebratory: it is the book I wish I had growing up."
Hill commented: "It took me until my thirties to find out some of the most basic information about my periods. I’m determined that my own two daughters and the next generation of girls won’t, like me, have to find out this information by accident or when they are practically halfway through their menstrual life! Our female bodies are incredible, and I hope this book helps girls feel excited about puberty, really well informed, and above all, period positive!"
Hill is the author of The Positive Birth Book (Pinter & Martin, 2017) and Give Birth Like a Feminist (HQ, 2019). She writes regularly for the Telegraph, Guardian, Independent and ipaper.
