Hachette Children's Group will publish two official companion titles to Netflix's "Sex Education" this autumn, including a non-fiction guide to relationships and a YA novel.
The publish acquired world rights in all languages from Netflix. Rights for the companion titles have been sold in 20 territories, after hotly contested auctions, the publisher said.
The first title, Sex Education: A Guide To Life, is a non-fiction guide to sex and relationships and will be published in hardback by the Wren & Rook imprint. It will cover everything from understanding your anatomy and who you are, to consent, sexuality and "the minefield that is modern love". It will also include insights from the show’s characters, therapy notes, diagrams, tips, takeaways, and illustrations from Fionna Fernandes.
Laura Horsley, editorial director for Wren & Rook, said: "Frank, funny and fearless – 'Sex Education' is a sensation for a reason. We are delighted to be publishing this no-nonsense non-fiction guide to love, life and much more for fans of the show and beyond.”
The official "Sex Education" novel, Sex Education: The Road Trip, is a standalone YA title written by Katy Birchall and will be published in paperback by the Hodder Children’s Books imprint. The synopsis reads: "Maeve’s brother is in deep trouble. He is desperate for her help – he says they only have each other to rely on. But with Aimee, Otis and Eric by her side, Maeve has the support she would never admit she wanted."
Alexandra Antscherl, editorial director for fiction brands, commented: "We can’t get enough of the superb 'Sex Education', so we’re thrilled to be publishing an irresistible new novel about the characters we love.”
Series three of "Sex Education" will air on Netflix from 17th September 2021. Sex Education: The Road Trip will be published on 2nd September 2021 and Sex Education: A Guide To Life will follow on 14th October 2021.
