Hachette Children’s Group has landed The Explorers Guide to Going Wild: Find Adventure Anywhere from debut author and explorer Preet Chandi.
Helen Archer, commissioning editor of text-led non-fiction at Wren & Rook, acquired world rights from Ben Clark at The Soho Agency. The book will be published with black and white illustrations from Aditi Kakade Beaufrand on 23rd May 2024.
Chandi’s is the first woman of colour to complete a solo expedition across Antartica to the South Pole and her book has been pitched as the "first of its kind", designed to "inspire future generations of explorers".
The Explorers Guide to Going Wild contains details of Chandi’s expeditions and activities including teaching children how to camp in the wild, master "bushcraft" skills and mini-explorer challenges for the reader to do at home.
Archer commented: "Preet is an inspirational adventurer. With a desert marathon, two Guinness World Records (with one more on the way!) and countless other adventures under her belt, I can’t think of anyone better to write this original and exciting book. Preet has shared some of her own epic adventures, big and small, as well as her top tips for enjoying the outdoors in this action-packed guide, and I can’t wait for young explorers to get their hands on it!”
Chandi added: “To me, exploration is about going on a journey to discover new places and stories. It is about learning, having fun and finding surprises on the way. I wrote this book because I wanted to inspire young people to embrace the spirit of exploration and curiosity and show that you can have an adventure anywhere. Ultimately, I want young readers to feel empowered to embark on their own adventures, big or small, and to understand that each adventure is a unique journey filled with opportunities to learn and grow.”
