Hachette Children’s has swooped for three queer young adult romances from Adiba Jaigirdar including A Million to One and The Dos and Donuts of Love.
Kate Agar, editorial director, acquired UK and Commonwealth rights for A Million to One from Cassidy Miller and Rachel Horowitz at HarperCollins US. Agar acquired UK and Commonwealth rights for The Dos and Donuts of Love and a third untitled novel from Uwe Stendar at Triada US Literary Agency. The first novel will be published in January 2023, the second will follow in June 2023 and the third title will be published in June 2024.
Jaigirdar’s debut The Henna Wars (Hodder) was selected as one of the best YA books of all time by Time magazine and won two KPMG Children’s Books Ireland awards. Her second novel, Hani & Ishu’s Guide to Fake Dating (Hodder), is currently shortlisted for the YA Book Prize 2022 and has been shortlisted for a Lambda Literary Award and an Irish Book Award.
A Million to One has been described by the published as a "heart-pounding romantic adventure" following four friends who have managed to sneak aboard the "Titanic" to pull off "the heist of their lives". The Dos and Donuts of Love combines "delicious baked goods with intense competition and whirlwind romance in a sugar-sweet YA love story".
Publishing director Sarah Lambert commented: "These three new YA novels will cement Adiba as the shining star of heart-warming, joyful LGBTQ+ love stories, with her extraordinary talent for super relatable characters and swoony romance. We couldn’t be more proud to be Adiba’s publishing home in the UK and Ireland."
"I’m so thrilled to be working with the team at Hachette Children’s to bring more of my books to Ireland and the UK," said Jaigirdar. "I’m incredibly grateful to all the readers who have supported me here and can’t wait to share these new books with them.’
