Short Books will publish bestselling weight loss author Michael Mosley’s next title, The Fast 800 Keto, in 2022.
The Fast 800 Keto: Eat well, Burn Fat, Manage Your Weight Long Term will focus on combining a ketogenic diet, one which is high in fat and low in carbohydrates, with intermittent fasting to achieve weight loss and other health benefits. It will be published by Octopus imprint Short Books in spring 2022.
It will be followed by The Fast 800 Keto Recipe Book, written by his wife Dr Clare Bailey, and will be packed with keto-friendly recipes and weekly meal planners.
Publishers Rebecca Nicolson and Aurea Carpenter acquired world rights directly from the authors. Mosley’s previous titles were also published by Short Books, prior to the non-fiction indie’s acquisition by Hachette in 2019. For the first time, Mosley has aligned his publishing teams within the Hachette Group across the UK, US, Australia and New Zealand to create a united publishing, marketing, publicity and sales team that aims to grow readerships in those markets.
“In The Fast 800 Keto, Dr Mosley presents the latest science on the ketogenic diet, explaining how it works and why it is so good for you,” Hachette said. “He offers a detailed, step by step programme, along with easy tips and clear advice on which foods help put you into ketosis and which ones stop it, how you can tell if you are producing ketones and how to ensure that you are doing the diet safely. The book will feature fascinating case studies, including some of the participants from Dr Mosley’s acclaimed autumn 2020 series for Channel 4, ‘Lose a Stone in 21 Days’, along with delicious, simple recipes and menu plans by Dr Clare Bailey.”
Mosley said: “Intermittent fasting and the ketogenic diet remain two of the hottest dieting trends on the planet, and rising health concerns, triggered by Covid, have made them ever more prominent. Yet there is a great deal of confusion about the different ways you can follow intermittent fasting and the keto diet, and the real benefits.

Mosley trained to be a doctor at the Royal Free Hospital in London before joining the BBC, where he spent three decades as a science journalist and executive producer. Now a TV presenter, Dr Mosley is renowned for bringing together the latest scientific research to create sustainable weight loss programmes.
Bailey, his wife, is a former GP who supported many patients to lose weight, reduce their blood sugars and put their diabetes into remission at her surgery in Buckinghamshire. She is the author of various titles including 8-Week Blood Sugar Diet Recipe Book (Short Books).
Mosley has sold 1.95 million print books in the UK for £10.2m, with his bestseller The Fast Diet, written with Mimi Spencer (Short Books), on 580,148 copies sold, according to Nielsen BookScan. Bailey’s spin-off recipe books have sold a further 615,000 copies.
