Araminta Hall is moving to Pan Macmillan in a two-book deal which includes the feminist suspense novel One of the Good Guys.
Publishing director Francesca Pathak, who previously worked with Hall at Orion, acquired UK and Commonwealth rights from Lizzy Kremer at David Higham Associates. The novel will be published in hardback in spring 2024.
The publisher wrote: "The novel opens with Cole – he’s supportive of his wife’s career, keen to be a hands-on dad, a romantic, not a big drinker. So when his wife leaves him, he’s floored – he thought he was the perfect husband. One of the Good Guys explores the notion that if most men claim to be one of the good guys, then why do so many women feel afraid to walk home at night?"
Hall is the author of five other novels, three of which are currently under option for screen adaptation: Everything & Nothing (HarperCollins), Our Kind of Cruelty (Cornerstone) and Imperfect Women (Orion).
Pathak said: "Araminta blows me away with her writing book after book but One of the Good Guys takes her to a whole new level. She is at the top of her game writing incredible feminist suspense and it is a joy to welcome her to Pan Macmillan."
Hall commented: "Over the past few years I’ve been thinking that the bar to be a good man is set shockingly low, and I wanted to take that idea and see what a few clever women could do about this in One of the Good Guys. I couldn’t be more thrilled to continue publishing with Francesca, who is the most amazing and supportive editor. And I am so looking forward to working with the rest of the brilliant team at Macmillan. I was completely bowled over by their enthusiasm for the book."
