Hamlyn has landed Baking Imperfect by former "Great British Bake Off" contestant Lottie Bedlow.
Publishing director Eleanor Maxfield acquired world rights from Elly James at The HHB Agency. Baking Imperfect will be published in July 2022.
The publisher said: "Lottie Bedlow was the stand-out star from the most popular series ever of Channel 4’s
’The Great British Bake Off’ in 2020. No stranger to the mishaps (and epic disasters) of home-baking, Lottie taught herself to bake through trial and error. Her signature sense of humour will guide you through this delicious collection of sweet and savoury bakes that strive for taste over perfection."
Each recipe highlights potential pitfalls, with notes on what to look out for and how to find a fix. Ranging from simple recipes for the inexperienced to ambitious centrepieces, Baking Imperfect gives the reader the “confidence to go for it, encouraging you to try your best without taking baking (or yourself) too seriously”. Expect recipes such as triple chocolate and salted caramel-centred cookies, "sin-amon rolls", "minimal faff brioche" and "foolproof custard".
Maxfield commented: “I’m thrilled to be championing this extra‐clever baking book that stands out for its unique troubleshooting concept. The marvellous combination of Lottie’s sharp wit and tempting recipes means you learn how to tackle key skills without even noticing – you’re too busy eating. Most importantly, you’ll have guaranteed fun and utterly delicious bakes at the end of it.”
Bedlow added: “There is so much about baking that can feel intimidating but, if you love eating as much as I do, making your own bakes is the best experience. I want this book to encourage people to have a go. I’m very grateful to Octopus and The HHB Agency for believing that I could put that message into my own original recipe book. I didn’t think I could do it, but I’m really glad I did (if a little terrified).”
