Harper Inspire has acquired Looking for the Durrells by Melanie Hewitt, a novel about the Greek island Corfu and the Durrell family.
The synopsis reads: "Looking for the Durrells tells the story of Penny who, after going through a broken-off engagement and the death of her beloved father, is desperate to get away. Fulfilling a childhood dream, she sets off on a month-long pilgrimage to Corfu, the idyllic island she knows only through the pages of Gerald Durrell’s My Family and Other Animals. On the island, Penny quickly finds herself drawn into the lives and stories of the people living there today."
Affiliate publisher Rose Sandy made a deal for world rights directly with the author, with publication scheduled for 5th August 2021.
Sandy said: "This is fantastic story which enables the reader to discover the Durrell family in a new way. Melanie has created the perfect summer read with characters that readers will truly fall in love with."
Hewitt, a fellow of The Royal Society of Arts, commented: "My late father’s love of the Durrell’s work inspired me from childhood. This book is a tale of loss, love, mending and moving forward on a Greek Island. It’s also a love letter to Corfu and its people. I’m so glad to be publishing it."
