HarperCollins has announced it has acquired the rights to three more books from author Tahereh Mafi, set in the world of her bestselling Shatter Me series.
Lindsey Heaven, publishing director, and Asmaa Isse, commissioning editor at Electric Monkey, acquired UK and Commonwealth rights from Alessandra Birch on behalf of Jodi Reamer at Writers House. North American rights for Watch Me were acquired by Tara Weikum, vice-president at HarperCollins Children’s Books from Jodi Reamer at Writers House. Translation rights, handled by Writers House, have already been secured in several languages.
The BookTok phenomenon "Shatter Me" series has sold more than 10 million copies worldwide and has been sold into 32 territories and translated into 28 languages. The new "Shatter Me: The New Republic" will launch with Watch Me, releasing simultaneously in the US and UK on 15th April 2025.
In her latest release, it has been 10 years since duo Juliette Ferrars and Aaron Warner Anderson led a worldwide rebellion and established the New Republic of the West. But The Reestablishment is ready to make a devastating move, and they have the perfect assassin for the job.
Mafi said: “I feel enormously grateful to be able to return to the ‘Shatter Me’ world. It was a distinct pleasure to build a new series in a familiar universe, introducing new characters to old characters I’ve lived with for years. It was also kind of a relief to return to dystopia. I think some part of my subconscious needed to process the darkness of the real world through this fictional landscape. My aim is always to forge the darkness in search of light, and my wish is that in Watch Me readers will find not only a refuge, but hope.”
Heaven said: “A new book in the ‘Shatter Me’ world is a moment of seismic proportions in the YA fantasy world—with a PR & marketing campaign to match—and so we are incredibly excited and proud to be bringing Watch Me to Tahereh’s UK fans. Tahereh’s fanbase are more than millions of individual readers but a supportive and passionate community that are at the heart of all our plans.”
Weikum said: “I am so thrilled that Tahereh is continuing her truly addictive ‘Shatter Me’ series. Watch Me is a phenomenal story told in a fresh, compelling way which will delight readers of the original books but will also appeal to readers new to this incredible world.”
