HarperCollins has bought a “joyous” book by Chessie King that aims to spread body confidence for women of all ages.
HarperNonFiction publishing director Kelly Ellis struck a deal for world English rights with Andrew Selby at 84World. Be Your Own Best Friend will publish on 28th May 2020 in hardback on Thorsons.
The synopsis explains: “In Be Your Own Best Friend, Chessie shares her life, stories, advice and motivation, inspired by her own journey from fitness blogger to brave, empowering body-confidence advocate. Delving deep into her own battles with mental health, anorexia, partial hearing loss and an undiagnosed heart condition, Chessie reveals all with the honesty, humour, and open attitude to life that has won her over 700k followers on Instagram alone. Filled with exercises and ideas to inspire and boost you along the way, this book will encourage you to stop doubting your brilliance and turn surviving into thriving, so you can start living your best life.”
King is a body confidence advocate, and presenter who has worked with brands on campaigns including Nike, Dove, L’Oreal and Rimmel. She has also worked with charities like Cybersmile to combat online trolling and bullying.
She said: “This book is a celebration of your best friend, your cheerleader, your soulmate, YOU. I invite you to take a comfy seat in my brain, whilst you become the c.e.o. of your busy mind. We’re unravelling all the delightfully complex layers that make us whole and delving into the things we wish we were taught at school. When you’re ready, we’ll strengthen your relationship with your bod, your brain and with all of the phenomenal humans that make up your solar support system.”
Ellis added: “Chessie is a breath of fresh air at a time we need it most. You can dip into her book at any point and discover something life-affirming that will make you look at yourself and the world with a much brighter, more positive perspective. HarperNonFiction is absolutely thrilled to be working with Chessie on this incredibly special book. She has brought sunshine into our lives and poured her heart and soul into its pages. Women everywhere will find much comfort in the deeply personal stories she shares along with truly valuable advice and inspiration. It’s joyous!”
