HarperCollins has acquired world rights for Downfall by Nadine Dorries.
HarperNonFiction publishing director Ajda Vucicevic struck the deal with Piers Blofeld at Sheil Land Associates. Downfall will be published in hardback, audiobook and e-book on 21st November 2024.
"After decades in the hands of malevolent players and two years of disastrous leadership, the Conservative party stands at the edge of the abyss," the blurb reads.
"The next leader will hold the future of the party in his or her hands, and with outside forces resisting change, the challenge will be as enormous as it will be difficult.
"Picking up on the events that followed The Plot [published by HarperCollins last year] from the humiliation of Liz Truss’ 49-day premiership to the shameful, self-serving drift of Rishi Sunak’s time in office, Nadine Dorries will draw on interviews with those in the room to expose what really went on behind the scenes.
"Downfall will tell the story of a political party on the verge of extinction," Dorries said. "Downfall picks up where The Plot left off and covers the two years of drift under Rishi Sunak to the day of the general election.
"My sources are people who were in the room and have told me the raw and, sometimes, brutal truth. A key player in the plot to remove Boris Johnson, Sunak struggled to comprehend from day one why MPs would neither trust or listen to him.
"They had been duped again by those responsible for the line of deception which stretches back through the party for decades—the masters of the dark political arts—who raised Rishi up and when they had no further use for him, just as they had with so many others, brought him back down."
Blofeld said: "HarperCollins did such a terrific job publishing The Plot and it is a real pleasure to work with the team there to help bring Nadine’s extraordinary insights into the state of the Conservative party and modern British politics to the widest readership possible with Downfall."
Vucicevic added: "Nadine’s extraordinary access into what really goes on in Westminster is unrivalled and everyone at HarperCollins is absolutely thrilled to be working with her once again on what looks set to be another important and page turning book."
