HarperNonFiction has acquired To Save Every One, the official book to celebrate the remarkable 200-year history of the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI), featuring a foreword from actor Daniel Craig.
Publishing director Lydia Good negotiated the deal directly with the RNLI. To Save Every One will be published on the 1st February in hardback and e-book. Craig will write the foreword in his capacity as an RNLI supporter.
"The RNLI has seen many huge cultural and societal shifts as well as significant historical moments, and they have been actively involved in many – from the very first women who launched lifeboats, and the efforts of crew during both world wars, to the evolution of their cutting-edge lifeboat technology, record-breaking rescues, selfless sacrifices and outstanding acts," the publisher said.
Since its foundation in 1824, the charity has saved more than 144,000 lives, and saved many more from harm through its services. HarperCollins said: “With volunteers and donors at the heart of their work, this book is a tribute to the communities, volunteers, survivors and supporters that have powered the RNLI’s mission – to save every one – for the past 200 years.”
RNLI chair Janet Legrand KC said: “It is an honour for the RNLI to be able to share the incredible story of the bravery, sacrifice, innovation and dedication that has shaped the RNLI from its foundation on 4th March, 1824, up to today. To Save Every One is a tribute to the indomitable spirit of the institution and the countless lives it has touched and saved.”
Good said: “It’s so rewarding to see the success of our first two books with the RNLI, and to have this chance to celebrate their incredible 200-year history. They’re truly one of our best-loved charities with a remarkable – and exciting – story to tell. This book is packed full of amazing archive photography and first-hand stories from those at the heart of the RNLI.”
