HarperCollins Children’s Books has snapped up Megan Davidhizar’s debut Silent Sister in a two-book deal.
Tom Bonnick, editorial director, acquired UK and Commonwealth rights from Molly Ker Hawn at the Bent Agency. North American rights have been sold to Delacorte Press. Silent Sister will be published in summer 2024.
Hawn said: "I read this manuscript on holiday—that’s how good it is. Tom’s enormous enthusiasm for it matched my own and I’m delighted that HarperCollins will be publishing Megan in the UK. She’s a serious talent and I know readers will devour her debut."
Silent Sister is told with two different timelines and two different point of views. It follows Grace as she pieces together notebook entries and classmate revelations to simultaneously find out how her sister disappeared and to clear her own conscience.
Bonnick said: “I’ve been looking for an unputdownable thriller for a long time so I was delighted when Silent Sister arrived in my inbox. It’s such a gripping and brilliantly plotted story with a fantastically clever concept and an incredible voice. And even though I never see a twist coming, Megan’s ending is particularly rewarding and unpredictable. HarperCollins Children’s Books has an amazing track record of publishing some of the biggest YA voices from across the globe, including Veronica Roth, Alice Oseman and Kiera Cass. Teen fiction is a major growth area for us and I am so thrilled to be welcoming Megan’s hugely exciting voice to the list.”
Davidhizar added: “I’m thrilled to begin a partnership with HarperCollins Children’s Books UK. The team’s enthusiasm for these sisters is infectious and I’m so excited for this twisty tale to surprise readers in the UK and all over the world.”
