HarperCollins has landed Lochs and Legends: A Scotsman’s Guide to the Heart of Scotland by tour guide Andrew McAlindon, a.k.a. Andy the Highlander.
HarperNonFiction’s former senior commissioning editor Anna Mrowiec acquired world all-language rights directly from McAlindon and co-writer Lilly Hurd, with commissioning editor Harriet Prideaux now overseeing publication. Lochs and Legends will be published on 1st August in hardback, audiobook and e-book.
It is billed as “a love letter to Scotland and a guide to the extraordinary tapestry of the land, history and folklore”. The synopsis says: “From the majestic beauty of the wild Scottish landscape to the hidden traces of its history waiting to be uncovered in every town and village, Andy McAlindon is enthralled by the country he is lucky enough to call home. Following his work on "Outlander", Andy has become one of Scotland’s busiest tour guides, both in real life and online, and his first book is a celebration of everything that makes Scotland so unique.”
McAlindon said: “I am delighted to be working with the team at HarperCollins and I can’t wait to share the finished book with you all.”
Prideaux added: “Andy’s enthusiasm for the history and culture of his homeland is so infectious. He is a positive force – determined to give his followers every fascinating nugget of information he can, and with such passion and humour. To be guided by a true expert is a real treat and I look forward to sharing his work with readers.”
