HarperCollins has scooped the new book from Edwina Dunn OBE, a big data pioneer, government adviser and founder of non-profit The Female Lead.
HarperNonFiction publishing director Rose Sandy acquired UK and Commonwealth rights from Rachel Mills at Rachel Mills Literary. The book will be published in hardback, audio, and e-book on 29th February 2024.
In 1995, Dunn launched the world’s first and largest loyalty card with the Tesco Clubcard. Later, in 2019, she was awarded an OBE for services to data and business, while in her role as deputy chair of the government’s Centre of Data Ethics & Innovation.
The books draws on Dunn’s work with Female Lead, the non-profit organisation she founded to offer alternative role models to young girls and inspire the next generation of female leaders, and dovetails this mission with data-driven analytics to present solutions to inequality. Described by the publisher as a “data-driven roadmap” and “urgent conversation”, the books aims to provide a strategy that will make the world work better for women and men.
Dunn said: “When She’s in the Room sets out my own experience and groundbreaking research and a practical manual that challenges our status quo today. It’s based on all I’ve seen and know so far. It’s time for us all to embrace the inequality that exists yet shape the society we want to see, to create practical solutions and a better, more fulfilling life and workplace for women and men.”
Sandy added: “I am thrilled to be publishing When She’s in the Room by Edwina Dunn. Edwina’s contributions to the field of data science and female empowerment are unparalleled and she brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to the table. As the founder of the non-profit organisation The Female Lead, Edwina has already demonstrated her dedication to inspiring the next generation of female leaders through her insights and expertise. Drawing on her experience as a successful entrepreneur and pioneer in the data industry, Edwina’s book will inspire us to imagine a world where women can embrace who they truly are. By combining data-driven insights with actionable strategies, Edwina offers a powerful call to action for anyone who wants to create a more equitable world.”
