HarperCollins has acquired The Money Basics: How to Become Your Own Financial Hero by financial expert and TV personality Peter Komolafe.
Rose Sandy, publishing director non-fiction, acquired UK and Commonwealth rights from Hattie Grunewald at The Blair Partnership. The Money Basics will be released in paperback, e-book and audio on 16th March 2023.
The synopsis reads: “With numerous studies predicting a continued and prolonged squeeze on real household income in the UK, The Money Basics is an urgently needed, straightforward and practical guide to money management that demystifies the principles of financial security and equips readers with the money skills not taught or developed during their education or early lives.
"Honed through Peter’s own journey from growing up in foster care, sleeping on the streets and being burdened with crippling debt to being on a Fortune 100 executive in Canary Wharf, The Money Basics is built around Peter’s tried-and-tested five step approach: BASIC: Budget, Avoid Debt, Save Early, Invest Early and Credit Score.
"Spawned from Peter’s genuine passion for helping ordinary people create financial security through positive financial habits and his rock-solid belief that anyone can implement these methods, no matter what your financial situation, The Money Basics will prove to readers that becoming their own financial hero is simpler than they think.”
Komolafe is a financial expert, coach and TV personality who has appeared on programmes such as “Secret Spenders”, “Lorraine” and “Steph’s Packed Lunch”. He founded “Conversation of Money” (a YouTube channel and weekly podcast) in 2020 to open up the conversations he wished someone had had with him when he was in his twenties.
Komolafe said: “Having previously been in serious financial trouble myself and since having helped many who have found themselves in a similar tricky situation through my ’Conversation of Money’ podcast and my YouTube channel, I strongly believe that a lack of education – on both a state and community level — around money and finances is one of the biggest issues facing our society today.
“With the spiralling cost-of-living crisis squeezing real income for the foreseeable future, and continued inaction on the government’s part to force transparency or tighten regulations on credit cards and loans, I felt there was an urgent need for a guide such as this one, that will equip and empower people with the skills and knowledge needed to not just survive but thrive during these tough times.
“I am thrilled to be releasing my book with HarperCollins and I look forward to helping the readers become their own financial hero. This is more than just picking up important knowledge, it’s about offering practical ways to set goals and lay the foundations to meaningful financial security.”
Sandy said: “I’m so pleased to be publishing The Money Basics: How to Become Your Own Financial Hero. Peter is a master at teaching financial literacy. He has an incredible ability to take complex concepts and make them easy for us all to understand. Having lived the real-life lessons himself, these words have personal meaning and bring life experience to the lessons being taught. The Money Basics is a must-read for anyone looking to establish control of their finances and build financial security.”
