HarperCollins is to publish Cher’s “comprehensive, intimate, and revealing memoir”.
Lynn Grady, s.v.p. and publisher of Dey Street Books, an imprint of the William Morrow Group, acquired world rights from Alan Nevins of Renaissance Literary & Talent Agency. Editorial director Carrie Thornton will edit the book.
HarperNonFiction will publish the actress and singer’s book in the UK. Title and publication date are yet to be revealed.
The book will cover Cher's childhood, the days of Sonny & Cher, during which she performed with her husband Sonny Bono, and her subsequent solo music career as well as her numerous acting credits.
A HarperCollins spokesperson said: “In this comprehensive, intimate, and revealing memoir, Cher will tell the story of her journey from high school dropout to becoming one of the best-loved musicians and actresses in history, and winner of a Grammy, an Oscar, an Emmy, and three Golden Globe Awards.”
Katya Shipster, editorial director of HarperNonFiction described the deal as an “extraordinary privilege”. She said: “Cher is a cultural phenomenon who continues to transcend the boundaries between music, film, fashion, politics and popular culture. She is, and always has been, frank, funny and outspoken, and her life and career have been utterly exceptional, as this book promises to be.”
Grady said: “Simply put, there is only one Cher, and we can’t wait for her to share her life story—the way she wants to tell it.”
