HarperCollins has snapped up Queer Power!: A Celebration of Icons, Activists and Game Changers from Across the Rainbow by author and illustrator Dom&Ink.
Omara Elling-Hwang, assistant editor for HarperNonFiction, struck a deal for world all language rights with Lauren Gardner at Bell Lomax Moreton. The book will publish on 13th May 2021.
The publisher explained: “After struggling with a lack of representation growing up, Dom&Ink wanted to create something special to celebrate the queer community and all the modern-day trailblazers, activists and icons who have helped shape it. Covering topics such as coming out, gender, mental health and activism, the beautifully illustrated Queer Power! showcases a mix of well-known public figures and lesser known figures and allies whose voices deserve to be heard, including Jonathan Van Ness, Billy Porter, Indya Moore and MNEK.”
Known professionally as Dom&Ink, Dominic Evans is currently the official illustrator for “RuPaul’s Drag Race UK” and over the years has created work for BBC1’s “Little Mix: The Search”, “The X-Factor” and a string of others. He has also collaborated with high-profile brands such as Skinny Dip and Urban Decay and has seen his work featured in Cosmopolitan, Gay Times, Glamour, Buzzfeed and Time Out.
Dom&Ink said: “I am so thankful for the opportunity to create Queer Power! For so long, I've wanted to write and illustrate a book that platforms LGBTQ+ voices that I love, learn from and look up to. While this book is about 'icons, activists and game changers', it's also about visibility for these people who we may not see on magazine covers or on television. I have loved every second of putting together the eleganza that is Queer Power!, a book for every LGBTQ+ person out there and a love letter to my beautiful, diverse and vast rainbow community.”
Elling-Hwang added: “I am really proud be working with Dom on this exciting and empowering book. Dom has poured his heart into this celebration of some of the incredible LGBTQ+ icons and allies shaping our world and his passion and enthusiasm shines through on every page.”
