HarperFiction has netted two new novels from bestseller Lucy Foley in a major deal.
Kimberley Young, executive publisher, acquired UK and Commonwealth rights from Cathryn Summerhayes at Curtis Brown, and North American rights have been acquired for William Morrow by Katherine Nintzel, vice-president and executive editor, from Alexandra Machinist at CAA on behalf of Summerhayes. The two novels are as yet untitled and do not have publishing dates.
Foley’s chart-topping thrillers, The Hunting Party, The Guest List and The Paris Apartment, have sold over 3.5 million copies worldwide, according to her publisher. She has twice been shortlisted in the Crime Thriller Book of the Year category at the British Book Awards. The Guest List was a Reese’s Book Club pick and it also scooped the Goodreads Choice Award for Best Mystery/Thriller.
HarperCollins said the new deal “extends Foley’s global publishing with HarperCollins” and cements its “ambitious plans to establish her as the leading voice in contemporary thriller writing”.
Summerhayes said: “Lucy’s transatlantic partnership with HarperCollins has been exceptional since The Hunting Party and continues to go from strength to strength. I’m thrilled we have another two books to add to her bestselling trio of thrillers.”
Foley added: “Releasing three murder mysteries with HarperCollins both sides of the pond has felt like receiving a masterclass in exceptional publishing – I am so lucky to work with such brilliant, creative, hard-working people and to have such a wonderful, trusting editorial relationship with my editors Kimberley Young, Kate Nintzel and Charlotte Brabbin. I’m completely thrilled that our murderous party is going to continue!”
Young also commented: “Lucy Foley is such an extraordinary talent and to see her so quickly build into a number one bestselling global brand is testament to both her gift as a storyteller and a professionalism that makes everyone want to hand sell each and every book.”
